Now, I was reading a lot of responses to this question, and I feel a bit odd, cause my answer isn't anything like everyone else's. Also I'm seeing a lot of favorite bands from when people were like 12. Come on. Did you not listen to music before then? There had to have been something that you liked before "Nsync" or "Nine Inch Nails" had any meaning to you. There had to be something, when you were like 4, that you just liked cause the music was good and you had no idea what it was about.

With that being said, my FIRST favorite band was Manhatten Transfer. My parents had one of their albums on LP back when I was 3. We'd listen to it at dinner time. When I was about 5 we went and bought one of their newer albums. I think we have 4 of their albums on LP at this point.

Extra points if someone can name (without asking the internet) on of their albums and/or songs (with the exception of "Boy from New York City").

This totally doesn't surprise me Apr. 4th, 2007 @ 05:15 pm

» Army life
Anything Army weekend in the books. It wasn't so bad. We got done early on Sunday which is always a plus. If only we got done early everytime. Then it would be fun. Well probably not. There were a couple promotions this weekend and we all started work on our packets to get promoted to Sergeant. However, I found out there aren't any slots for a 96B E-5, which means I won't be getting promoted anytime soon. I could promote out of the unit, but I kinda like where I am. Not to mention, if I drilled somewhere else, how would Mary get to drill?

I really should be doing my school work, but I just don't have the motivation right now. School is such a pain, I can't wait to be done. Almost there. December should be it. Ugh, it'll be so nice to be graduated.

Well, I guess I'll try to do some work. Hopefully everyone else's weekend was much more exciting than mine.
» Pictures are crazy
I found a bunch of pictures from high school on a CD. All I can say is WOW. We were retarded. Like super retarded. We're talking "you realize that might lead to permanent brain damage?" retarded. Fun stuff though. I had a lot more hair. And it was stupid looking. I look much better with my no hair. We all look better for that matter. Yeah, that was the other thing, we were a stupid looking bunch. No offense to my friend or anything, but we were a bunch of ugly ducklings. Which is ok now I guess, since we're all so hot.

It's weird, when I think back to that time, it all seemed so normal. But looking at photographic evidence of some of it, I realize we were crazy. Strange how your brain remembers it the way it wants to not the way it was.

Anyone got a good high school story that we might have forgotten? Or maybe something that no one new before now?

The other day I was recollecting with Stocum and Schaffer about how Stocum and I became friends. I wanted to go to Gwynedd after school one day and I didn't have a car. Someone suggested that I ask Stocum (who everyone knew somehow) cause he had a car and his sister went there. So of course, I asked him. He said no. Lucky for me, there were cute Mount girls there and they were like "Awwwww, you should drive him to see his girlfriend!!!" Matt, being the exemplary specimen of teenage male that he was did what the cute girls said. So on the way we talk about Warp theory and other really really nerdy things, most of which I only half understood. Finally I got to Gwynedd. I think Stocum even picked up his sister Liz since he was there, I don't remember though. Now the funny part of the story is that I didn't actually get to see my girlfriend when I got there. I forget what she was doing. But then my dad took me home, which would have sucked cause otherwise I would have been totally stuck there.
» My spin '07
Well, so far I think the New Year has been very... New Yearish. I'm still writing 06 on just about everything. It's the worst I feel so dumb everytime I do that. Usually takes me til February to fix that. Mary and I got new glasses and contacts for the new year too. Yeah seeing! The contacts I got are hard to use though, so I think I'll have to get them changed. Speaking of changing crappy things, my class schedule suck super hard. I'm at school right now and I'll be here til 10. Yeah, that's 9 hours of being at school. I've got a 2 hour break at some point, but that's not enough time to rationalize going home. And basically the way this schedule works I won't be able to goto work on Monday, Wednesday or Thursday. Meaning I'll work 2 days a week. Which equals really small paycheck. I hate small paychecks. They don't help me. But thanks for Mary's vigilance (read "making me do stuff I should be doing on my own") I have my GI Bill, so at least I get money for being in school. That might help me pay all my bills, we'll see.

Anyway, that's about it unfortunately. Nothing gigantic. Most of the people who would read this already know exactly what's happening in my life anyway, so this is for that small population of probably 3 people who might care what's happening.

Also, I think I need to start saving up for an iPod. I have my PSP and I usually us that to bring music with me, but I can't exactly run with that ya know. Then I'd need to update my music library more than once a year. Rawr...

So it was my birthday on Thursday. I know I know, I don't even ever post anything any more. That's a good thing. I'm too busy doing stuff to write about it...

...but I've got time to tape it and put it on youtube.com.

Wow, almost there. This afternoon we go out to the field. I'll be there for 10 days, so don't even bother with the phone. After we get back, we outprocess for 8 days, and then... graduation!! I'll be on a plane at 0600 on the 16th. HUZZAH!! Just a little longer... See you all soon!!
» It's coming!!!
Bit by bit, it's creeping up on me... the end of my training as an AIT soldier. December 15th I graduate and at 6am on December 16th I'll be on a plane home. Once I get the itinerary I'll let everyone know when I'll be getting in. But right now it's good enough to know that I've already told Travel to book my flight. Look at that, taking care of something before there's only a week left. Holy crap, maybe the Army is doing good things for me. We'll see. Alright, so you've only got 4 weeks left to send me stuff, so let's get on that people. I want stuff sent to me already!! Hurry it up. See you in December.
» 18.7
You may be asking yourself, "What is the significance of 18.7?" I'll tell you. 18.7 is a very important number. It is, of course, the number of miles you have to march in order to get the Gold German Armed Forces Badge. There's another important number. 5. That's the number of hours you have to do the 18.7 miles. Another number 4:48. The time I did it in. And last but not least, 50. The number of places that hurt on my body.
» Oh yeah!
We had an "Organizational Day" today, which pretty much means we got out of class early to play games. We had Basketball (Men's and Women's), Volley Ball (Coed) and then PT events for both Male and Female including; Push ups, Sit ups, Iron Soldier (Push ups and Sit ups) and Pull ups. The platoon voted me for Iron Soldier. When out time comes up, the other guy went first. In 2 minutes he did 58 push ups. I was disappointed. I did 65 in a minute, asked the Drill Sargeant if that was good enough to win, and then did 5 one-handed push ups. A little over the top, but my DS loved it. Then sit ups. Again, I was disappointed. He did 65 in 2 minutes. I did 99. 106 really, but they did count 7. Anyway, that was my story. Everyone was happy and we won the trophy, which was huge. Everyone said I was the reason they won, but that's silly cause we won like 5 events.

Anyway, just wanted to gloat a little. I was excited, out of like 200 soldiers, I kicked the most ass. Huzzah!!! Send me mail.

I finally got my pictures from Basic! I only took like 20 pictures. And most of them suck. What should you expect, really? Well, I'll try to get them scanned and posted. I should have thought of that. I could have gotten a photo CD made, huh. Too late. Anyway, one of these days you'll all see me in my BCGs, and you'll understand why they're called "Birth Control Glasses." Later people.
» An order from PFC DiToro
I hitherto do decree that it is your responsibility (that's ALL of you) to burn me a CD to listen to while I'm here in Arizona for AIT. The theme of the music will be your choice of course, but do true to make it relate somehow with whatever kind of relationship you have with me. I expect nothing but the best from you all. That is all.

Weird, a poor kid got hit by a car just outside of Tae Kwon Do. He's ok, but it's still scary. So close to home.

Mary's leaving again. I don't want her to go away again. But, I guess I'll be in the same place with her soon enough. Ugh, Basic... it's the waiting that's the worst. I can't wait to learn all the neat stuff that we'll be doing. The intelligence stuff is really fun, and I really like how much technology is integrated into what I'm going to be doing. But sometimes I feel like some of other people in the unit are a little slow. Like, they didn't know the difference between "systematic" and "systemic." Ugh.

Oh well, time to get back to work.

» DiToro goes bye bye
Well, May 20th is quickly approaching, and I'm realizing that I have fewer and fewer weekends left. People, if I haven't had a chance to see you recently, you've got precious little time to do it. Hurry up. So, aside from the weekend of april 15th-17th, my weekends are pretty open. I want to know when I can see people. Quickly, sign up for your weeekend, there aren't many.

Sigh. I was talking about going to basic with some of the morning students today. The reality of it is getting closer and closer and I'm starting to get a little apprehensive. I want to do this, but I feel more and more taken back by the enormity of it all. I'm going to be gone for 6 months. No family, no friends minus those in the barracks (who I've heard will become very good friends) and it just seems like a situation with which I'm not entirely equipped to handle. The physical part is no problem, I know that. With my current training and how hard I'll be training at basic, I'm sure I'll make it through. There just seems to be so many things to deal with, and I don't feel I'm doing a good job right now. Rawr. Oh well, it'll come, as every thing else does. I'll be ready when the time comes. I just wish it wasn't so close.
